Global Packaging was established in 1979 in Preston, Lancashire, operating from a rented 3,500 square foot warehouse employing a total of 5 staff. In 1983, the number of staff employed had risen to 8 and the company moved to larger premises of 7,000 square feet on the Walton Summit Industrial Estate.

As the company continued to grow so did the need for additional storage and operating space and between 1988 and 1991 the company purchased and successfully relocated to a 12,500 square foot warehouse and office facility to provide the catalyst for further expansion. Global Packaging recognised the worldwide opportunities for its operations and in 1995 invested in a co-ownership manufacturing plant in the Far East employing 120 staff.

1996 moved to fully owned 25,000 square feet premises, with offices.

By 2002, Globals' momentum was gathering pace and the company developed a further 40,000 square feet of narrow isle, high bay and semi-automatic racking systems with a further capacity of 10,500 pallets and a staff of 25. In the same year, Global introduced bio-degradable additives into bespoke flexible packaging for large food retailers as well as individual private retailers. Further product innovations took place between 2002 and 2008 and in 2008, Global Packaging became the first company to produce and supply carrier bag products to the European Home Compostable Standard. In 2009 Global was also the first company to produce and supply U.K home Compostable Certified Materials and are now working with national retailers and local government on initiatives to promote food waste collection for industrial composting and energy generation. Other ground breaking development work during 2009 has included developing 50% post consumer waste RPT containers for food products, the production of a multi award winning wine carrier, 50% post consumer waste flexi loop carriers with a national roll out, the launch of a "food to Go" range with reduced raw material usage and the development of film grade bags with 25% less plastic raw material.
